research intended

Things to find out: How many planes did the Japanese had.  Where did they set of from.  Collect more pictures: of bombs, islands and planes.

Reaction to the conspiracy on Pearl Harbour

Apart from one evidence which is the ‘Bomb plot message’ there isn’t any other evidence and the motive to this conspiracy is a bit circumstantial, to get involve in the war in Europe.

after the first day

Today we were introduced to the assignment and we got a fair amount of research done.  I was given the task of creating a mood board for the battleships, and while I was gathering the images i came accross all the battleships that sunk on 7th december 1941, which will come handy when it comes to the modelling.

general research

Attack began at 7.55am on Sunday 7 December 1941.

In two hours the first five of eight battleship sank.

USS Arizona burned for two days

The Japanese attacked in two waves.  The first wave's aim was to make sure that the Americans couldn't counter-attack and it lasted half an hour.  They did this by dive-bombing (1) and strafing (Attack repeatedly with bombs or machine-gun fire from low-flying aircraft).   Many American bombers and patrol planes (2) were targeted and either destroyed or damaged.

The second wave departed after a 15 minute wait after the first wave.  For an hour they delivered dive bombing, horizontal bombing (3) and fighter machine gun attacks.

Japan lost only 29 planes, with 9 in the first wave and 20 in the second wave, compared to the Americans, who lost 64 and 82 were damaged.

The aircraft carriers involved in the attack were: Akagi, Hiryu, Kaga, Shokaku, Soryu, and Zuikaku (4). Two fast battleships, 2 heavy cruisers, 1 light cruiser, 9 destroyers, and 3 fleet submarines provided escort for the task force.  There were only 3 Japanese class planes, A6M Zero, B5N Kate and D3A Val (5).

planning

After creating the mood board for the battleships I realised that planning is important, as i dont want to be wasting time on unused modelling, e.g. the  the parts of the ships that are not going to be in the camera shot.

Reaction to the brief

This is going to be a hard and challenging 12 weeks.  I suspect that we have to do a lot more animation than the 3d animation last semester, which means we have to learn a lot of new techniques.  The topic pearl harbour is interesting, I am looking forward to researching the topic in greater detail.  Due to the fact that its a group work assessement I expect to improve my group working skills.
