I think this module was more about the modelling than animation. I've learnt some new things such as exploding and I think I've gotten better at modelling polygons as is evident by the island. We worked on particle systems where I made a smoke. I worked on Photoshop for in order to create the island. We learnt how to create textures and colours using UVW mapping. reactor tools was another thing we learnt where we made object collide. Daylight system was used to create realistic lighting
Good points:
The good point were that we made a pretty good start, but we could not maintain it.
Bad points:
The bad points about the project were the lack of communication between the group members, apart from Facebook. This was a real problem at times as I/We needed to work on things where I/We needed help. i think he fact that we were only meeting once a week hindered us, I think the meetings should have been more than once a week. The other bad thing is that there was no direction in the group, as for nearly 2 weeks I had no idea what was going on. This led to me modelling several islands and only one of them was used.

animation - ships and planes
All I had to do is move the ship across from Japan to about 300miles north of Pearl Harbour and make it look like the planes have taken off from the ship so i made the planes really small and placed them where the ship was going to stop. i first tried to animate the planes without grouping it and it didnt work.

whole island - again and again
The fact that I couldn't find the island file presented me with both a problem as it was in the last week and an opportunity to get it right especially getting the flat area for the runway, as is shown in the picture below.
However, it went all wrong as I was only viewing it from one angle - top view, so it didn't look particularly good.
So I started again and this time I used a different technique. I used the line tool to sketch out the islands and then extruded. then I placed all the ships, trees and barrel in.
I was told to add some materials but I wasn't feeling well, also the fact that i wasn't feeling well made me miss the presentation that we were supposed to give in week 12.
Due to bad communication between the members of the group I am unsure of which island they used for the final production.

Week 10 - Whole ford island
Week 10 - Whole ford island blog
While waiting for others to finish their work, so I can
animate them, I thought I’d give an attempt on modelling the whole island now
that I’ve got the hang of modelling lands.
As it turns out, I finished it within an hour.
Using select object, select and move, and the z index below
the animation line I was able to produce:
I have produced 3 different islands using different
techniques, it will be up to the other group mates to choose which they like
best.
setback
scene 2 needs redoing as i seem to have forgotten to have
the pictures in the same folder so when i gave it to my group mate it didn’t
came wih the textures. I tried to read
it but it seems i have th wrong picture as the bumps are in the wrong place like
so:

With a mini group meeting I was clear on what I needed to do
and it turns out that that we don’t need arrow as we are going to take another
approach. We also discuss that we dont
need to have the whole of the pacific ocean modelled, but just the part where
Hawaii and japan are visible., so i came up with an improved version.

exploding plane
I click on space warp > geometric deformable > bomb and draw it near the plane. I then set the
settings to the image below.

scene 2
For scene two i took a image of the pacific ocean from
google maps.
I then drew a large plane with 200 segments both width and length
and applied the image of the pacific ocean.
Using editable poly, move tool and soft selection i was able
to bump up the land like so:
I then added the clouds using another plane:
I then turned my attention to the arrows. I drew another plane and converted it to
editable poly. I went into vertex mode
and selected the followings:
Using the move tool i created this:

scene 1 (take two) - Harbour blog
I first started with a plane that had 100 segments.
I then contemplated where in ford island i can place this
harbour, at the corner or at the side, then i realised that the perfect place
will be where all the action can take place which is:
I then converted it to editable poly, and chose the
vertex, I also checked on soft selection.
I then moved the z index up at the edges and added another plane to be
the water. I then added the port using
boxes. Unfortunately I pulled an area
down too much and it looks like a hole and I’ve tried for half an hour to fix
that problem. This is because my laptop
can’t handle that amount of polygons and is lagging so without noticing I must have dragged it
down too much. The result:
After several adjustments using
the number system I am happy with the outcome.
Next thing i did was to add some water texture. Luckily I already had one saved from the
previous tutorial:
I was tempted to be happy with the above picture, but
when I zoomed in on Google maps it gave me an idea. My plan now is to add as many features as
possible on the island, such as trees and houses.
As the picture above suggests, i need to model trees, so I
started off with a cylinder (the branches), turned it to editable poly, and
then i selected the bottom, like so:
Extrude>selecting polygons> selecting the top of
the branch>selecting rotate>rotating it a little>select and move>
moved it. The result:
I did this a few times.
Then i collapsed the end point like so:
i did this a few times in order to make it look like a
tree’s branch.
After several attempts of draw the leaves i finally managed
to get it right:
I then extrude and
then I raised the amount to 3:
I then made it smaller, made several copies and placed
them on the branches.
Now all I have to do is group all of the leaves and objects
together, merge this file into the other file and make copies (some will be
smaller in order to give it a realistic feel):
I plan on having some houses that and roads etc on it too
soon as I get all the objects from group mates at the moment I’ve got all except
one.

In order to make the island more realistic, I thought about adding some
texture, so I screen printed the picture from Google Maps of Pearl Harbour, and
the plan is to get an accurate size so I could implement it on the model.
I got a picture of Ford Island from Google Maps and put on top of the other picture and reduced the opacity to 29% as you can see from the image below:
Then I adjust it to fit the island behind like so:
As you can probably guess the it's going to be pixelated because its been made to stretch.
I then add a layer mask and hide the layer.
Leaving me with to use the magic wand and selecting layer 2 and then clicking on ford island, deleting it unhiding it and switching the layers so it leaves me with this:

Then I added it using the material editor > bitmap. The result is not that great as it looks half
animated and half ‘real’ as well as pixelated:
So I thought of another way to do this. (then lead on to scene
1 (take two) & )
